Salinas Juneteenth 2023

Saturday, june 17, 2023 - hartnell college, Salinas

History

The Historical Legacy of JuneteenthJuneteenth is an often overlooked event in our nation’s history. On June 19, 1865, Union troops freed enslaved African Americans in Galveston Bay and across Texas some two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
Why celebrating Juneteenth is more important now than everIt’s time for America to truly grapple with its legacy of slavery.
